Newsletter Update - 29/11/23
Hey! Here’s what I’ve been up to this past month, some cool testimonies of what God has been doing, an update on my team - the ministry opportunities for us in Guinea-Bissau and a crazy story about how I bumped in to some familiar faces :)
Team Update
This (below) is the team!! Since my last newsletter there have been a couple changes, there are still 3 staff however only 8 students. Going left to right we have Bertine (19 from Norway), Chris (27 from Sweden), Tae (23 from Korea), Tyler (27 from the US), Chase - staff (20 from the US), Tiana (19 from Canada), Fiona - staff (20 from Canada), Olivia (18 from the US), Shelby (19 from the US), Bia (18 from Brazil), and me!
The team is really doing well, we have so much fun together, we’ve been able to practice sermons, skits, and different ministry prep. We also led a prayer and worship set for GB at 6am for an hour which went really well and everyone enjoyed it, and we have another set coming up next week. We’re in the final countdown for outreach now, our flights are on December 17th and we will arrive in GB on the 20th. We’ve all gotten all the necessary vaccines and pills to help protect ourselves, and we’re all getting so excited to go.
Our speaker this past week was a woman named Giane Brunetti and she and her husband are actually the leaders of the YWAM Guinea-Bissau Base and so it was such a blessing to have her here. She was really able to share a lot about GB and get the team excited, she shared so many testimonies of how God is movie out there and a lot of ministry opportunities we will have while we are there. The GB base is working closely with a ministry called EBPN - End Bible Poverty Now, and their goal is to get a bible in every language in the world, both written and aural. Part of this is that there is a goal to have a bible in every home in GB by 2025, and it is possible, Giane, her husband and their team have mapped out the whole of GB and everywhere they have distributed bibles - including the exact homes and so following their plan it is totally doable by 2025 meaning bible distribution will be a big part of the ministry we do whilst in GB.
November
This has been a pretty crazy month, we had topics on ‘Fear of the Lord’, ‘Pioneering’, ‘Spiritual Warfare’, ‘Cross-Culture Training’ and ‘Missions’, and in fact all the speakers on this topic were amazing women of God which was pretty awesome and have actually been the majority of the students favourite speakers. It’s been really interesting to get to this point of the DTS Lecture phase as the first half the lectures are often a lot more internal focus and personal growth/ healing. Whereas at this point in the DTS a lot of the topic are focussed on external things and looking forwards and outwards to outreach and so the students are getting quite excited for outreach, to be on the field and apply what they’ve been learning. We also had a talent show which was so much fun to see the students let loose and have fun displaying different talents, some of which included chugging cartons of milk.
We also had a ‘Freedom Week’. This week started off with a lot of inner healing for the students and a lot of deep things came up for a lot of the students and we as staff were able to help walk them through these things and lead them back to the Lord in those things and then at the end of the week we ended with baptisms, and I had the honour of being able to baptise one of the students, Phoebe! It was so cool to see so many students get some real breakthrough in that week and see people walking out in the freedom god brought them through that week and being able to be a part of that was such blessing.
I also had some visitors on the island with me. My mum and dad were here with me for 10 days and I got to show them around my world here for a little while. We got to explore, and catch up and they ended up really bonding with some of the students and being able to pour some of their wisdom and life experience into them and bless them while they were here which was awesome. They also got to finally meet all the friends I’ve been talking about since January.
Coming Up
We have our love feast. Love feast is a celebration every DTS hosts, the whole point is to celebrate fellowship made and the journey of DTS and finishing lecture phase. So the staff are organising that for the students, the theme this time is ‘Starry Night’.
The next big thing is outreach!!! I leave for outreach on the 17th of December, so not long at all, and in these last few weeks and days I am doing lots of practicals and getting my team as prepared as possible for outreach and all the ministries to come. However, a big prayer point is that I am still in need of £1600 ($2000) as soon as possible, I need to be fully funded by the 17th.
Here’s my final lot of prayer requests before outreach…please be praying for financial provision asap, and also be praying to see if the Lord is putting it on your heart to support me financially in this season, whether its a one time donation or monthly support. Please also be praying for safe and smooth travels for my team, we are flying across the world, over 3 days, with 11 people in foreign countries which has a lot of room for problems to come up so please be praying that the Lord’s hand would be over us, and you can be praying for us as we travel. Please also let me know any prayer requests you may have so that I can be praying for you as well!
