Newsletter Update - 29/10/23

Hey! This has been a crazy month, I’ve been learning a lot, and having so much fun getting to know the students and do life with them! Also I can finally reveal my outreach location…

October

This past month we’ve had a lot of different speakers coming in to the DTS covering many different topics. We had the ‘Character and Nature of God’, ‘Hearing God’s Voice’, ‘Father Heart of God’, ‘Holy Spirit’. Holy Spirit weeks seems to be the students favourite so far, the speaker was Stephen Castellow, he was very knowledgeable on the topic and able to back everything he was saying up biblically. As well as this, because it was Holy Spirit week, we had a DTS wide spirit week, meaning each day there was a new theme that we all had to come dressed as and that was great fun to see everyone getting involved.

We also had the Ironman Championships happening this month. This is a mega triathlon competition that happens here in Kona every year and this year it was the women’s turn. The competition consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed immediately by a 112 mile bicycle ride and a 26.22 mile run, in the hot Hawaii sun.

Students

This past month God has really been giving me his heart for the students. I have such a heart and a love for them all and cannot wait to see the plans God has for them! It’s been such a blessing to get to walk alongside them as God does work in their hearts during this lecture phase. I have found myself loving every minute I get to spend with the students as God is totally filling me up I find I’m able to just pour into them out of the overflow in my life and God’s unfailing goodness to me.

The girls in my room are such a joy! We have so so many laughs together and love hanging out with each other, we truly have become a little family and its so amazing. Every week we have room dinners, we get to share what God has been teaching us that week in lecture, check in on each other, pray for each other and just chat together.

It’s also been amazing to see the students responding in class, they’re all so willing to allow God to work in them, and willing to really go deep in this season already I can see the growth in so many of the students from the beginning of the DTS. It has really given me hope for this generation, seeing how willing and open the student were to the Lord and hearing testimonies of how their families and friends back home are being transformed by hearing what God is doing in their lives while they’re here!

Outreach

I’m so excited that I can finally let you know that I will be going to Guinea-Bissau on outreach! It’s a country in the west coast of Africa under Senegal. I will be leading with two other staff Fiona (20, from Canada) and Chase (20, from the US). We have a team of 11 students from all over the world. We have an age range of 18-27 as well as a married couple on the team!

The students found out the locations 3 weeks ago and from there they were allowed 5 minutes to pray and then submit one location they felt they heard from God. From there the school leaders prayed over all the teams and placed the students accordingly.

Since we found out our teams we’ve been meeting every week to process that classes from that week as well as start getting to know each other and prepare for our outreach. The team already has begun to bond so well and they love spending time with each other outside of the schedule which is really encouraging to see as this was one of the things my co-leaders and I were really praying for and so its been amazing to see God answer that prayer for us. Our team is also filled with laughter, there is never a dull moment every team time is so much fun, there’s such amazing characters on my team and so I cannot wait to go on outreach with them all!

Coming Up

In the next few weeks there are a couple big events happening. On October 6th, the founder of YWAM Loren Cunningham sadly passed away at the age of 88. This past month we as an organisation have been in mourning as leadership felt lead to do so as the Israelites did after the death of Moses (Deut 34) and so the 30 day following his death there was lots of celebration for the life of Loren and the amazing ways God used him in the missions field. November 3rd-5th will be the final days of mourning as this will mark 30 days and so over that weekend there will be lots of celebrations going on all over campus and a final tribute to Loren.

My team and I will also continue preparing for outreach in the weeks leading up to it, and my mum and dad will be coming to visit at the end of November.

In terms of prayer requests, please be praying that my team will continue to bond and work together well and function in unity. Pray for my co-leaders and I that we will have constant wisdom from God on how to lead this team well and that we as trio-leaders would stay unified and set good examples to our students. Be praying that God would give me wisdom on how to continue to disciple well, and also please be praying for finances. God is being so faithful that whenever I am in need of finances it is miraculously coming in, however I am still in need of £2000 ($2400) before I leave for outreach.
